GBI has always maintained that our employees are our greatest asset and we are now seeking to add to our team on the Big Island of Hawaii. We are searching for a qualified candidate to fill an opening for an Estimator I.

 

 

JOB SUMMARY
The Estimator will provide accurate, timely, and comprehensive bids for private and public sector improvement projects. Specifically, the role will be responsible for identifying bid opportunities, preparing competitive bid documents, and developing winning proposals.

In addition, the Estimator will contribute to the success and profitability of projects by providing ongoing assistance during the construction phase, including estimate interpretation, problem resolution, an active involvement in the change order process and assist in overall account management.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
• Perform a site visit and thoroughly review bid approach with Estimating management, noting soils report, specifications, traffic control requirements, project phasing, construction water considerations, jobsite security, subcontractor interface issues with self-performed work, subcontractor qualifications and exclusions, equipment and manpower requirements, productions impacts, working hour restrictions, etc.
• Coordinate the engineering quantity take-off for projects with the Take Off department highlighting important details, including phasing, individual pricing quantities, etc.
• Contact subcontractors and suppliers (i.e. truckers, material providers) requesting quotes to successfully bid a project
• Utilize estimating system to comprise an accurate budget or bid. When possible, confer with Field Operations on project requirements, productions, job restrictions, staffing, competitive advantages, subcontractor experience, etc.
• Produce a professional private works proposal and manage the contract process with customers and subcontractors ensuring scope of work, pricing, inclusions and exclusions per quotation are complete, consistent and approved by management
• Work with Contract Administration to complete a public works bid proposal ensuring bid package is submitted in accordance with public agency bidding process and timelines.
• Always incorporate Company safety policies and procedures in the building of estimates with the goal of providing a safe, healthy work environment for all Field representatives

SKILLS/TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE
• Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management or Civil Engineering
• Minimum three to five years of estimating experience
• Understanding and working knowledge of estimating, project scheduling and take off software solutions; knowledge of HCSS Heavy Bid, AGTEK, and P6 a plus
• Proficient in MS Office
• A strong, energetic work ethic to efficiently execute all duties and responsibilities
• Proven track record of bidding success and project profitability
• Strong knowledge of construction paving, underground, concrete and grading practices
• Demonstrated decision making skills in a high production environment
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Proven ability to exceed customer expectations and incorporate customer service into all interactions
