Goodfellow Top Grade Construction, LLC (GTGC) is a large heavy/civil contractor with operations throughout Northern California. GTGC has always maintained that their employees are their greatest asset, and we are currently searching for a Safety Manager to join our team in Livermore, California.

The Livermore office is located right off the 580 freeway and has projects in the Greater Bay Area and Central Valley. GTGC has been involved in many exciting and high profile projects including paving the Golden Gate Bridge, San Francisco's Monster Park, The Great Mall in Milpitas, Bay Meadows, The Levi's stadium in Santa Clara, and the new Apple Campus in Cupertino.

JOB SUMMARY:

The Safety Manager will have a minimum of 12 years of safety experience in the heavy civil construction industry. The position will be responsible for planning, administering, implementing and coordinating the GTGC Safety and Health program to reduce or eliminate occupational injuries, illnesses, deaths and financial losses. Additionally, this individual will be responsible with ensuring that GTGC is in compliance with California and Federal workplace safety laws and codes such as Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations and Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) regulations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Support project teams for 100% safety compliance and have a strong field presence

  • Schedule, maintain and track field safety audits with Safety Engineers

  • Track jobsite safety participation requirements and review for program compliance

  • Investigate all major incidents, facilitate root cause analysis for all SIF’s, implement new best practices and create lessons learned

  • Work with GTGC captive insurance company or insurance broker on high hazard jobs

  • Review safety training records and ensure all employees are up to date with training needed

  • Set up pre-job safety meetings with project team, assign action items

  • Assist project team with setting up safety portion of jobsite, i.e. posters, supplies, PPE, forms

  • Ensure that personnel are maintaining Safety Supply inventory

  • Regional Zonar coordinator and provide training

  • New Hire Safety orientations, including drug testing setups

  • Claims Management (Property Damage, Workers Comp, Auto, General Liability), including return to work coordination for injured employees

  • Safety Prequalification’s for new clients and bidding purposes

  • Local industry association involvement

  • Additional Duties as needed

     

    REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

     

    B.S. in Occupational Safety and Health or similar degree

    Minimum of 12 years in heavy/civil construction safety

     

    REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS:

     

    OSHA 30 and CHST

    ASP or CSP preferred

     

    ESSENTIAL SKILLS:

     

  • Ability to perform industrial hygiene monitoring

  • Strong computer skills

  • Ability to manage and lead team of safety professionals and support staff

  • Risk management and claims handling experience in workers compensation, general liability and property damage a must.

  • Extensive knowledge of Federal OSHA, Cal OSHA, MSHA and FMCSA is required

  • Strong presentation skills and the ability to build relationships with a variety of different work groups is necessary.

  • Passion for being in the field and supporting construction operations is a must.

  • Occasional travel required.
